    Description

    Russell & Erwin Mfg. Co
    New York
    No 1893
    4-1/2 Point
    26 inch Skew back
    Rip Saw
    1890s
Russell & Erwin Mfg Co are better known for hardware but did sell tools. The picture is from an 1899 catalogue of hardware. The saw was made for them by Harvey Peace at Vulcan saw works in NY. R&E had a few location I think New Britain CT was the home office but all the saws I've owned have had the New York Etch on the saw. The saw features may of the Peace touches like chip carved apple handle with
reinforcing plate attached to the underside of the handle patented by
William Hankin. and Cornelius Tenney. They also feature top of the line spring steel.
This ones a workhorse: 26 inch length and 4-1/2 point pitch, A ripper in the highest order! Strangely all the R&E saws like this I've owned were rip saws.  I would guess this ones from 1890 and it's possible the model number is the year they started making them. Let talk about rip saws. I've had a few people ask for larger rip saws and I'm doing my best to get some ready to go. The bigger the teeth the more aggressive they cut. 5 and 4-1/2 points aren't normally cut progressive as the users of such saws don't tend to be new to saw. They can take a little practiced but the reward is more efficient cuts. If you are looking to rip longer boards a larger point size will do so with less effort in less total strokes and if you're  looking to take advantage of a larger point
this is a nice one. Freshly sharpened, ready for use out of the box.
Have a look at the photos and details below. Let me know if you have any questions.
    ABOUT THE SAW
    HANDLE:
As I like to find them unmolested. Really night early Peace shaped handle. Some of the best designed top horns of that time.
Nicely figured applewood. Both horns are full, no repairs made or needed. In the front shot of the handle it might look like a hairline crack on the inside of the grip, it's not.  The brass hardware is tight to the plate and in great working order.
    PLATE:
A few marks, scratches and stains.  Etch is very light but you can make out some of the Russell & Erwin Mfg Co and the Model No. The picture isn't great.
I take great care in my sharpening process and don't simply sharpen and list. After the saw is sharpened I test cut then tune as needed for best use. I sharpen my
rip saws with a touch of slope and fleam to the teeth.
4-1/2 point rips are well suited for all types of woods. The larger point size is well suited for larger jobs
    .
Please excuse any dust in the pictures the saw will be wiped down before it's mailed. After looking over pics let me know if you have any questions.
    WHY BUY FROM ME
The goal with every saw I offer is to bring back the beauty in direct proportion to its overall condition
.Each one is checked before it’s sharpened and tested then tuned as needed. It's true I do this for profit but I've got a passion for saws that anyone who's talked with me know.  I stand behind what I sell! It’s as simple as that. If you're not happy contact me and I will refund or work it out. I don’t tend to sell at auction rather I sell a top quality saw at a fare price. It’s what I demand, and what you should as well. My description don't spend time saying I'm the BEST or have a god like ability with a file, I don't trash other seller rather I try and to stick to the topic at hand— some history, details, and a few jokes. I'm very good at what I do because I've learned from others and practice a lot. I have love for what I do and I think if you take the time to read my blog or follow me on social media it come through. That passion I feel tips the scales in my favor and I hope gets you to try one of my saws.  Rest assured if it doesn't go to your liking with mine or another sellers saw I'm here to make it good.
I offer restoration and sharpening services. Please contact me or look me up on the web.
If you like to read more about my process and all things saws please read my blog positiverake or find me on Facebook
    NOT SO FINE PRINT
Please carefully review the pictures, I have done my best to describe things as I see them. ALWAYS feel free to email with any questions and I will do my best to answer them.  I make every effort to ship next day after payment M-F.
I now use the ebay calculator that allows local customers a better rate then a single flat rate coast to coast.
I'm happy to combined shipping but please contact me BEFORE payment so I can combine
I accept returns up to 14 days
. I do not charge extra for shipping but do charge .50 to cover the cost of the box. These older saws can damage easily and I find it's better to use a custom box rather then recycle ones.
Please take a second to look at this and other saws I offer. I put a good deal of effort into each saw and I want you, the buyer to be happy. E-mail with any issues and I will do my best to resolve them in a peaceful way.

Thanks for look and I invite you to read my feedback, It’s a gift and you should bid with confidence based on it.
