This is a late 1700s, possibly early 1800s pit saw. Once early settlers built water powered sawmills these saws became obsolete. They are very very rare. It’s even rarer to find one in this condition. This pit saw is in museum condition. It was used to make boards and beams. One man worked above the log and the other worked below. An Internet search for “pit saw” will turn up drawings of men using these saws. You are very unlikely to get another chance to buy one of these. This pit saw measures 52 in. long and 26 in. wide. The blade has no missing teeth. Local pickup is available.
